So I just finished reading this book, so its review time!
This story was so interesting and is a book that I recommend reading of you haven’t already. This book was written in a different and unique way that was fun to read.
The cover of the book pretty much tells you everything you need to know. It is a letter to her captor. There is so much more to it, though.
It happened like this. I was stolen from an airport. Taken from everything I knew, everything I was used to. Taken to sand and heat, dirt and danger. And he expected me to love him. This is my story. A letter from nowhere.
I am so lucky to say that I have never been in a situation like this but when reading this I put myself in Gemma’s shoes, I felt like I would have acted just the same way as she did. The entire situation was either really believable or both Gemma and I are not very smart, but either way I liked it and thought that it was believable.
While reading the book you want to much to hate Gemma’s captor, Ty but as the book progresses, you learn about his past and his motives for doing the things he does and his connection to the land and you begin to empathize with him. I really didn’t want to but I did.
I remember shaking reading this book during certain parts. There are places that get really real and just imagining them happening to me sent a chill down my spine. There was this one part where Ty was telling Gemma why he chose her to kidnap instead of someone else and there was just something utterly creepy about his reasoning behind doing what he did.
I have never read a book with this kind of setting before either. Gemma kidnapped in Bangkok Airport and taken to the middle of a desert in Australia. Isolated. The author really captured the setting beautifully. I have never read a book that took place in the middle of a desert and it was new and interesting to read about. Aside from the plot, the imagery from the setting was unique, even though I knew nothing about what living in a desert was like, I was fully able to imagine it in my mind.
I think that the writing on a whole was so unique and wonderful and I really recommend reading this book.
